National Buddy Day: 1 June 2012
On Friday 1 June, primary schools across Australia will celebrate National Buddy Day, an initiative developed by NAB and The Alannah and Madeline Foundation, to raise awareness about the importance of friendship and the issue of bullying amongst primary school children.
As part of National Buddy Day, primary school students will participate in school-based activities that celebrate positive relationships and highlight ways kids can help other kids to learn positive behaviours to reduce bullying.
To celebrate National Buddy Day, children around Australia are also being encouraged to learn the ‘Buddy Handshake’—a specially developed handshake that is for kids hands only.
The Buddy Handshake represents the values of one of the foundation’s bullying prevention programs, the Better Buddies Framework—caring for others, friendliness, respect, valuing difference, including others and responsibility.

White Balloon Day: 7 September 2012
This year, Bravehearts Inc. will celebrate its 16th annual White Balloon Day.
Staged during Child Protection Week (September 2–9), the humble white balloon has become synonymous with child protection and this special day has evolved into Bravehearts' signature national event.
White Balloon Day is not only a day of recognition, awareness and support for the victims of child sexual assault but is also the principal fundraising initiative which enables Bravehearts to educate, empower and protect all Aussie kids.
White Balloon Day provides a unique opportunity for organisations to make lasting contributions to helping make Australia the safest place in the world to raise a child—a vision that can only be achieved with the support of the entire community.
